Circadian Disruption: a timing malfunction of the circadian rhythm, usually robbing either from the repair or productivity functions within the cells of the body. It is often the result of poor light hygiene, which greatly affects the timing and the amount of the hormones melatonin and cortisol in the bloodstream.

A behavioral timing mismatch to one’s internal biological clock is a circadian disruption.

In other words, if a person is attempting sleep while their brain/body clock believes that sleep time is still a long way off, this would constitute a circadian disruption.

If the internal brain/body clock’s schedule is calling for the release of hormones that are consistent with sleeping but the individual is rather awakening, this too is a circadian disruption.
