Circadian Rhythm: is the natural 24-hour cycle of repair timing versus productivity timing found within almost every cell of the body (cancer cells are an exception to this rule). It is important that all of these cellular clocks, that is, the circadian rhythm within each cell, are synchronized with all of the other cells’ clocks. Interestingly, live cells removed from the body continue to display the workings of their individual cellular clocks within, but will, over time, eventually lose the synchronization from the body’s timing.

This 24-hour cellular clock is very important because some repair and productivity activities cannot be performed at the same time. They need to be scheduled routinely for adequate durations to not rob from either function’s contribution. Cells function as groups of cells: and their individual clocks are synchronized, so their individual repair and productivity activities must not overlap each other. Thus, the members of the group are doing the same things at the same time as a team. This is the goal of Good Light Hygiene – to grant the right amount of light and dark exposure to drive the circadian rhythm periods correctly within each cell.
